Dallas sits about 26 miles southwest of Scranton in Luzerne County's Back Mountain, though Wilkes-Barre is only about ten miles away by road and pulls more of the daily traffic. The borough itself holds under 2,700 people across two and a half square miles, the hub of a wider region built up since the 1950s around Misericordia University. It is a settled commuter place, not a lake town or a weekend destination — houses here are lived in every day of the year.
Much of Dallas Township filled in after the war, and the ranch houses and split-levels around Shavertown and Trucksville date from that build-out, with finished basements that became rec rooms and later home offices. Older homes closer to the borough centre go back to the 1879 incorporation.
